Gemini
The Winklevoss twins' crypto exchange — built on a Facebook settlement.

In 2008 Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss settled with Mark Zuckerberg for $65M. In 2013 they put roughly $11M of it into Bitcoin near $10 a coin — ending up with about 1% of all BTC — then built Gemini, a regulated exchange and custodian, and took it public in 2025. The settlement was the seed. Not a Silicon Valley story most founders can copy, but the clearest case of turning a payout into an asset before anyone else believed in it.
Why it's indexed
- ~1% of all Bitcoin, bought near $10 a coin in 2013.
- Regulated exchange and custodian; public since 2025.
- The $65M Facebook settlement was the founding capital.
