Raising capital at the pre-seed stage has become structurally harder. Early investors now place real weight on institutional signal when they evaluate first-time and idea-stage founders - and without it, conversations stall even when the idea is sound.
That environment is exactly why accelerators, fellowships and residencies matter again. A common belief is that these programs are only open once you have a product or early traction. In practice, that view is increasingly outdated: the best of them now back founders before revenue, before metrics, and sometimes before incorporation.
This is a practical reference guide to those programs - an updated, global list of the accelerators most worth a solo founder's time, grouped by who each one is really for.
What are these programs?
How they differ from a normal raise
A raise gives you money for equity and sends you on your way. An accelerator gives you a fixed-term program - mentorship, a peer cohort, and often a small check or stipend - designed to compress a year of progress into a few months, ending in warm introductions to investors.
The newer truth of the vibe economy: traction beats pedigree. A live product with real users - the thing you can now build alone in a weekend - is the strongest application you can submit to any of these.
The four fields, explained
For each program below you'll find four fields - Focus (what they back), Stage (how early they'll take you), Format (accelerator, fellowship, residency or grant, plus any check) and Geography (where you need to be). Terms and cohort dates change often, so always confirm on the program's own site before applying.
The global heavy-hitters
If you get into one of these, take it - the brand alone changes how investors, customers and future hires treat you, and all of them now accept solo founders.

How to actually choose
Don't apply to all 30. Pick two: one reach program from the heavy-hitters, and one that fits your reality - your region, your stage, whether you're technical, and whether you even need a check yet. An equity-free credit program plus a community you can join today will often get a solo founder further, faster, than chasing a competitive cohort you're not ready for.
And remember: a live product with real users is the strongest application you can submit to any of these.
